Biography
WORCESTER - Susan Evans Whitney, 86, died peacefully on Monday, March 13, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester. Raised in Westfield, NJ, Susan was the daughter of Willamay (Lindsay) and Stewart Evans and later lived inTappan NY, West Chester, PA and Atlanta before moving to Princeton and then Worcester over 20 years ago.She is survived by her husband of over 64 years, Robert Whitney of Worcester; her four children, Steven of Warwick, RI, Joan of Silver Spring, MD, Bruce of Putney, VT and Ken of Lancaster, PA; and her three grandchildren, Evan, Emnet and Madison.Susan obtained a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Oberlin College. It was on campus that she met her future husband, Robert, over a game of checkers, which she lost, much to her chagrin. They were married after graduation. For many years, Susan dedicated her life to raising her four children. Susan also loved to give back to the communities she was a part of throughout her life. She served as the President of the UU Church in West Chester, PA, President of the League of Women Voters of Georgia, and Treasurer of the League of Women Voters of Worcester. Susan was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Worcester where she was President in past years.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service honoring and celebrating Susan's life at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Worcester, 90 Holden St., Worcester. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the League of Women Voters of the Worcester Area, P.O. Box 20201 Westside Station, Worcester, MA 01602.
