RUTLAND / BOWIE, MD - Susan F. (Puniskis) Johnson now of Bowie, Maryland and formerly of 33 Barre Paxton Road, Rutland died on Saturday, May 14, 2011 after a brief illness.
She leaves her daughter, Ruth Johnson Shea of Bowie, her son-in-law, Timothy Shea; seven grandchildren, Phyllis Warner, Tara Owens, Katie, Teresa, Maggie, Ed, and Anne Shea; a great-grandson, Patrick Shea; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 2000 by her husband of 63 years, Andrew O. Johnson and a son, Andrew Johnson in 1961.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Worcester to John and Veronica (Mensevaciuta)Puniskis and lived in Rutland for 53 years before moving to Maryland in 2000. For 25 years, she worked for the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health.
She was an avid bridge player, liked to travel, enjoyed visiting the beaches at Rye, NH and Misquamicut, RI. and spending time with family. She also was a chaperone with the Rutland Fife and Drum Corps, a member of St. Patrick's Church in Rutland, St. Pius X Church in Bowie, Women's Sodality and the Belair Senior Citizen Club of Bowie. She also loved gardening and belonged to the Bowie Gardening Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21st, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. in Mooreland Cemetery, 251 Richards Avenue, Paxton.
