STERLING - Susan B. (Cole) Foley, Ph.D, of Sterling, loving wife, mother and grandmother, was received into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, August 1, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. She died peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
She leaves her husband and best friend of 47 years, Thomas E. Foley; a son, Brian T. Foley Esq. and his wife Sandra and son, Thomas and a daughter, Beth Foley, M.A. and her children, Megan Foley and Zachary Foley-Cox, all of Sterling; a son, Michael B. Foley and his wife Traci and their son, Ronan all of Townshend, Vermont; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Nancy J. Cole and her brother, Robert A. Cole.
Susan was born in Worcester, daughter of Robert B. and Nancy J. (Horgan) Cole and lived in Sterling for 41 years. She was a graduate of St. Joseph College, West Hartford, CT, Assumption College, Worcester, and Cornerstone University, St. Charles, Louisiana.
Susan was a Licensed Marital & Family Therapist who was in private practice in Sterling for 35 years. She was also a Licensed Certified Social Worker, a Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor and State Clinical Director for the National Christian Counselors Association, founder and director of the Christ Center – a Christian center for healing, and president and founder of the Institute for Christian Counselor Training. She was a clinical member of the American Association of Marital & Family Therapists, The National Association of Social Workers, The American Association of Christian Counselors & Therapists and a Diplomat on The National Board of Christian Counselors & Therapists; and a former member of The American Association of University Women and the St. Richard of Chichester Women’s Guild.
Susan and her daughter, Beth, were in a Psychotherapy practice together for many years. They were the only mother-daughter team in this area.
She loved spending time with family and friends and the many travels shared with her husband, Tom, children and grandchildren; vacations in Maine and Plymouth; summer weekends at the pool, golf and researching genealogy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road(Rte. 12), Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 5, in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will be private in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road, Sterling.
