HOLDEN – Susan S. (Brown) Nystrom, of Causeway Street in Jefferson, passed away at Sterling Village on Saturday, July 14, 2012. She was 68.
Susan was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Lewis M. and Odelia L. (Koivula) Brown, and lived over 40 years in Holden. She was a 1961 graduate of Townsend High School and graduated from the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing. As a Registered Nurse, she started her career at Hahnemann Hospital, then spent many years as a CCU nurse at Saint Vincent Hospital, followed by providing nursing care for many local Home Health Agencies, retiring in 2001. She also spent 20 years as an EKG Technician at Holden District Hospital, during her career. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holden and the Friends of the Holden District Hospital. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was an avid Red Sox fan.
Her husband of 35 years, Jay E. Nystrom, died in 2001. She is survived and will be missed by her daughter, Barbara A. Mellor and her husband Carl A. Mellor, Sr. of Jefferson; four grandchildren, Mark Nystrom, Samantha Williams, Stephanie Mellor and Carl A. Mellor, Jr.; and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Andrew E. Brown and his wife Marilyn of Townsend; lifelong friends, Joan M. (Landry) Johnson and her husband Richard, of Tavares, FL; and four nieces. A brother, David Brown, predeceased her.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, in the First Baptist Church of Holden, 1216 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Interment will be private in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
