HOLDEN - Steven D. Freeland of Worcester, formerly of Holden, departed this life at age 65. He was born on September 17, 1952 the son of the late Fordyce and Shirley (Lever) Freeland. Raised and educated in Holden, Steve was a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School class of 1970. He leaves two loving daughters, Erin and Kathryn (Katie), two brothers, Ronald J. and Jeffrey A. Freeland; and several nieces and cousins. Steve was well known in the Worcester music community as a very talented musician. His appreciation and love of music began at an early age. While attending Rice Elementary School, Steve would play his guitar or keyboard during indoor recess for his fellow classmates. He continued his passion for music, and after graduating high school joined popular bands including Fate and Broadway where his guitar sounded on stages in many venues throughout New England. He was also an accomplished sound man and worked with Tornado Alley and the Boston Brats, among others. Steve was a familiar face at Kurlan Music and Union Music both in Worcester where he worked for over 15 years, and was sought after for his expertise in musical instrument repairs. He was a freelance technician and owned and operated SDF Electronics from his home. Steve was kind hearted and possessed a refreshing sense of humor. He rarely met a stranger that wasn’t soon considered his friend. Steve was first and foremost a devoted father and family man. He was proud of his daughters and their many accomplishments and will be missed by the many lives he touched throughout his life. Family and friends will honor and remember Steve’s life by gathering for calling hours from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday, October 7, at Miles Funeral home, 1158 Main St., Holden. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Fender Music Foundation. To share a memory or offer a condolence, please visit our "Guest Book" on this page.
