Steven Paul Desmarais

PRINCETON – Steven Paul Desmarais, 62, of Princeton, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, after he and his wife, Ann, returned from celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in Hawaii.

Steven was born on April 30, 1950 in Worcester, son of Adrien and Annette (Heinzle) Desmarais. He graduated Wachusett Regional High School in 1968, attended W.P.I. majoring in math and civil engineering where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity.

Steven worked in the metals industry for 40 years, experienced in sales, manufacturing, purchasing and inventory management. He started his career at the George F. Blake Co. in Worcester, was an aluminum product manager for Admiral Metals in Woburn and an inside sales representative for Peterson Steel in Worcester. His most recent position was as a senior inside sales representative for Yarde Metals in Pelham, NH, where he was known as a “walking metals encyclopedia” which gained him many loyal customers and friends.

Steven is most remembered for his generosity, calm personality, modesty, strong work ethic and accomplishments. He enjoyed playing volleyball, tennis, hiking, scuba-diving, golf at Westminster Country Club, home improvements, landscaping in his yard and traveling around the world with Ann. He was a member of Prince of Peace Church, the Pine Hill Club and the Princeton Tennis Club.

He leaves his wife, Ann (Gargulinski) Desmarais, whom he met in high school; his sister, Linda Sheridan and her husband Jack of North Grafton, MA; brothers, Rick Desmarais and his wife Tina of Plainfield, Vermont and David Desmarais and his companion Pat Szucs of Martha’s Vineyard; his mother-in-law, Margaret Gargulinski of Sterling; brother-in-laws, Brother Benedict St. Joseph’s Abby of Spencer, Mark and Lea Gargulinski of Gaithersburg, MD, John and Jane Gargulinski of Petersham, MA, and sister-in-law, Marybeth and John Hall of Matthews, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 13, at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Church, 1 Worcester Road, Princeton. Interment will follow in North Cemetery, Mirick Rd., Princeton. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dan Hart Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 58, Princeton, MA 01541; or the Friends of the Princeton Library, 6 Town Hall Drive, Princeton, MA 01541.
