RUTLAND – Stephen M. Donoghue, 37, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at his home in Rutland after a courageous long-term battle with cancer. With him was his family, who loved him, and will miss him deeply.
Steve is survived by his parents, Thomas F. and Kathleen F. (Durkin) Donoghue; his sister, Margaret M. Donoghue-Eddy and her husband William of Worcester; his brother, Daniel T. Donoghue and his wife Susan of Worcester; four nieces and nephews that he adored, Brian and Brendan Eddy and Connor and Caleigh Rose Donoghue all of Worcester; and many aunts, uncles and cousins that he saw often and loved.
Steve was born in Albany, New York and lived much of his life in Rutland. He graduated from St. Peter-Marian High School and Westfield State College. Professionally, Steve was a Senior Account Representative dealing with computer storage equipment for Fortune 500 Companies including EMC Corporation, Hitachi and IBM.
Steve had a passion for the game of golf. He was a long-time member of Pleasant Valley Country Club and played in many regional and state amateur tournaments. Steve was particularly proud when he and his golf partner, David DiPilato won the “2002 Championship Flight” at the Pleasant Valley Labor Day Four-Ball Tourney. He also participated in the Team Golf National Challenge Finals in Scottsdale, Arizona, and was thrilled to record his only career “ace” last August 2nd at Oak Ridge Country Club in Feeding Hills, MA. Long after people forget his successful sales record or pretty golf swing, Steve will be remembered for his outgoing personality, wit, charm and infectious smile that endeared him to all who knew him. Aside from a loving family, Steve leaves behind countless individuals who he deeply valued, and whose lives were richer because they called Steve Donoghue their friend. Along with Pleasant Valley Country Club, Steve enjoyed his membership at the Worcester Athletic Club and the Newport Athletic Club. He was also a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland.
The funeral for Steve will be held on Thursday, July 6, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any donations be made to the VNA Hospice Care, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608; or the Josephites Father’s Hurricane Relief Fund, 1130 North Calvert Street, Baltimore, MD 21202-3802.
