HOLDEN - Stephen J. Koenig, 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Rose Monahan Hospice Residence. Born and raised in Holden, Steve was the son of the late Walter A. and Jean H. (Simmerer) Koenig and lived in Holden his entire life.
Steve was a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School, Class of 1969. He worked as a lineman for the Holden Municipal Light Department for over 30 years. After his retirement, Steve continued as a lineman for a private company for the following 10 years.
Steve enjoyed all things outdoors, but especially hunting and fishing. He hunted locally as well as at his family's hunting camp in Argyle, Maine. He enjoyed ice fishing on Lake Waushacum in Sterling and fishing for salmon on the Quabbin Reservoir. In his spare time, Steve enjoyed doing work around the house and fixing anything and everything.
He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 48 years, Sandra J. (Wesley) Koenig; two sons, Derek J. Koenig and his girlfriend, Brandie Davies of Holden, and Gregg S. Koenig and his wife, Elizabeth of Rutland; two brothers, Mark Koenig and wife Robin of Petersham and Walter Koenig and wife Cindy of Auburn; sister, Rebecca Raymond and husband Jim of Wells, VT; a granddaughter, Zoe Koenig; as well as nephews and nieces.
Steve will be honored and remembered at visiting hours from 1 to 3:30 pm on Saturday, March 2, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Stephen's honor to the White Oak's Land Conservation Society (
