PAXTON – Stella V. (Dyrda) Howard, 89, formerly of Paxton, died Friday, February 20, 2004, in Hermitage Nursing Home in Worcester, after an illness.
Her husband of 39 years, Murray B. Howard died in 1986. She leaves a son, Jack D. Howard and his wife, Linda of Paxton; two grandchildren, Natalie and Jason Howard both of Paxton; a brother, Edward Dyrda of Reading, Pennsylvania; and a sister, Jean Sharockman of Cumbola, Pennsylvania. Three brothers, Joseph, Zigmond and Steve, and two sisters, Wanda and Bertha, predeceased her. She was born in New Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Mary Kurek Dyrda, and was raised in Cumbola, Pennsylvania later living in Mystic, Connecticut and Worcester before moving to Paxton with her son and his family several years ago.
Mrs. Howard graduated from Blythe Township High School in New Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the office manager for Howard Advertising in Worcester for 16 years retiring in 1990. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and walking.
The funeral service for Mrs. Howard will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2004, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 36 Cameron Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02140; or a charity of one’s choice.
