WORCESTER – Stella (Ferreira) Acosta
Our Precious Vieja passed Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the age of 96. She devoted her life to her family, never wanting to be the center of attention, instead she was the bridge that nurtured and kept our family together. Nothing was impossible for her to ensure we had what she considered necessary. She was always there to protect us, she never thought of herself and the only thing that truly mattered to her, was for our family to be together, loving and caring for one another.
Vieja was the foundation of our family, through and through. She devoted her life to our happiness and success. She was our person, the one who picked us up when we were down, fought for us, and guided us on the right path. She encouraged Catholic beliefs of Grace, Love, and Forgiveness; how to give and how to receive. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She cared for generations of children until she reached the age of 90, leaving an everlasting impression of love on her grandkids and great-grandkids. She had a passion for cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, and crocheting.
If you knew Vieja, you were loved unconditionally, you would never leave the house hungry and you were in the presence of such incredible wisdom, strength, and determination. She made the impossible possible each and every day. She left a legacy hard to follow. It is our hope that one day we can all be viewed as the guiding light that she was.
Stella was born and raised in Tacuarembo, Uruguay, a daughter of the late Paulino and Maria (Airies) Ferreira. She met and married the love of her life, Juan F. Acosta, and together they moved to Montevideo to start their family. In 1973, they moved to the United States.
Stella will be lovingly missed and remembered by her son, Carlos Acosta and his wife, Marcia of Worcester; her daughter, Gladys Cristiani of Worcester; her grandchildren, Maria and Jason, Mabel (Titi) and Jimmy, Linda and Michael, Courtney, and Katherine and Jay; her great-grandchildren, Madison, Anthony, Bella, Andi, M.J., Ryan, Stella, Grace, and Teddy; and her faithful dog, Maxi. In addition to her parents and her beloved husband of over 50 years, Juan, she was predeceased by her grandson, Jonathan Acosta, her son-in-law, Wilson Cristiani, and many brothers and sisters.
Services are private and under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Breast Cancer research foundation, 3 Speen St. Suite 250, Framingham, MA 01701.
