HOLDEN - Stanley J. Riggles, 72, of 96 Nelson Street, died Wednesday, July 28 in St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester after an illness.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Elaine (Yanche) Woods Riggles and his first wife, Nancy L. (Culross) Riggles. He leaves a son, Jeffrey C. Riggles of Rutland; 4 step-daughters, Robin A. Hoey of Marblehead, Laurie E. Beaulieu of Venice, FL, Amy B. Scamman of Pepperell, Faith M. Woods of Worcester; his sister, Evelyn A. Riggles of Holden; a nephew Edward S. Riggles of Holden; 5 grandchildren and several cousins.
Mr. Riggles was born in Holden, the son of John and Hildur (Richardson) Riggles and lived in Holden all of his life. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Riggles retired from Crowley Construction Company in Leominster, and had previously worked for Holden Sand and Gravel and Capa Construction Company in Rutland. He had also owned and operated Stan’s Package Store in Webster.
He was a member of the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post # 204 in West Boylston. He had been a volunteer firefighter in Holden and volunteered at the Holden Carnival at the CRA.
The funeral service for Mr. Riggles will be held at 10:30 a.m on Saturday, July 31 in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 30 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post # 204, 159 Hartwell Street, West Boylston, MA 01583.
