HOLDEN – Stanley F. Amons, 79, of 23 Lowell Avenue, died in his home on Friday, June 23, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Helen A. (Hallberg) Amons; two daughters, Susan J. Amons and her husband James Hoover of Biddeford, Maine and Nancy L. Amons of Nashville, Tennessee; a son, Paul S. Amons and his wife Kristin of Rutland; a brother, Chester Amons of West Boylston; a sister, Jane Phelan of Holden; three grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. Three siblings, Irene, Henry and Theresa, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Frank and Gladys (Tryzinski) Amons, and lived in West Boylston before moving to Holden 38 years ago.
Mr. Amons was a Navy veteran of World War II serving aboard the U.S.S. Bremerton (CA 130) in the Asiatic Pacific theaters. He was a ceramic extruder for Norton Company in Worcester for 38 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the U.S.S. Bremerton Reunion Organization and the First Congregational Church in West Boylston. He was a skilled woodworker, airplane and boat modeling hobbyist, and was a kind and generous man beloved by his family and friends.
The funeral service for Mr. Amons will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 26, in the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central Street. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, 32 Church Street, West Boylston. Calling hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
