HOLDEN – Pauline S. (Stedt) Rose, 92, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in the Beaumont at University Campus Nursing Home, Worcester.
Her husband of 61 years, Robert C. Rose, died in 1999. She leaves two sons, Robert C. Rose, Jr. and his wife Judy of Baldwinville and Donald W. Rose of Holden; a daughter, Sally A. Bond of Holden; six grandchildren, Katrina Schramm, William Bond, Richard, Brent, Timothy and Martin Rose; eight great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Roland and Harry Stedt, and a sister, Helen Stedt, predeceased her. She was born in Holden, daughter of Charles F. and Elizabeth (Forsberg) Stedt, and lived most of her life on Zottoli Road in Holden.
Mrs. Rose was a 1933 graduate of Holden High School, a 1936 graduate of the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing, and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Clark University and a Master's degree in Education from Worcester State College. She was a registered nurse and worked at various local hospitals including Hahnemann Hospital. From 1956-58 she was the school nurse at Wachusett Regional High School. In the 1960's, she was the first director of nursing at Holden Nursing Home, a position she held for many years. She later returned to Hahnemann Hospital and taught in the nursing program. In 1975, she moved to Panama City, Florida, and was an Associate Professor at the Gulf Coast Community College until 1986, moving back to Holden, where she worked at Wayside Nursing home until the age of 85. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 23rd, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Mrs. Rose will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 24th, in the funeral home followed by burial in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, 41 Whitmarsh Avenue, Worcester, MA 01606-3296.
