WORCESTER/OAKHAM – Bernice S. (Ries) Kennington, 89, formerly of 150 Whitmarsh Avenue in Worcester and from Oakham, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 3, 2007 in the Parson’s Hill Nursing and Rehab. Center, Worcester.
Her husband of 63 years, William J. Kennington, died in 2004. She leaves three sons, James W. Kennington of Hubbardston, David R. Kennington and Paula Makovitch, and Paul “Chris” Kennington and his wife Lori all of Oakham; three daughters, Paula F. Parkinson of Sterling, Susan M. Tyck-Amidio and her husband Jack Amidio of Oakham and Elizabeth M. Delaney and her husband Joseph of Worcester; 11 grandchildren, Christopher, Kerrin, Ryan, Brooke, Jeremy, Jon, Jamie, Sam, Shauna, Ries and Emily; and 4 nieces. Three brothers, Oliver, Alfred and Harold and three sisters, Laura, Grace and Shirley, all predeceased her.
Mrs. Kennington was born in Worcester, daughter of Olaf T. and Marie (Brandt) Ries, and lived in Worcester most of her life. She was a graduate of Commerce High School, worked as a hairdresser and was a lifeguard. She swam at the Greendale YMCA and enjoyed walking, landscaping and gardening; loved music, ballroom and polka dancing with her husband, and joining together with friends. She relished family gatherings and sharing stories and adventures with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Kennington’s family would like to thank the staff at Parson’s Hill for all of their care and support.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 6th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Mrs. Kennington’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 7th, in the funeral home followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Old Turnpike Road, Oakham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parson’s Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Patient Activities Fund, 1350 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
