Norman S. Provost

HOLDEN – Norman S. Provost, Sr., 89, of 1276 Main Street, died Friday, July 25, 2008 with his loving wife by his side.

He leaves his wife, Elizabeth J. (Londergan) Provost, with whom he celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past April; three daughters, Suzanne E. Brown and her husband Bruce of Jefferson, Patricia A. Provost of Holden, and Cynthia M. Granger and her husband Richard of Princeton; two sons, Norman S. Provost, Jr. and his wife Roberta of Spencer and Albert L. Provost and his wife Laurie of Princeton; a sister, Madeleine Brousseau of Worcester; eight grandchildren, Richard, Matthew and Mackenzie Granger, Jacqueline, Norman and Alexandra Provost, and Daniel and Joseph Provost; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandsons, Andrew J. Brown, and infant William Granger and infant Provost; a sister, Lucille Aranaz and a brother, Leon Provost. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Harry J. and Adella (Rosenblatt) Provost, and lived in Worcester until moving to Holden in 1956. He attended Worcester Public Schools.

Mr. Provost was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II serving as a Corporal, 13th Airdrome Squadron, in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was a bus driver for the Worcester Regional Transit Authority, formerly Worcester Bus Co. for 25 years. Previously he worked for White Cleaners in Worcester. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Knights of Columbus, was active in Holden Little League as coach for the Indians, and loved spending time with his family and enjoying a cigar on his front porch.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 27th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Mr. Provost will be held on Monday, July 28th, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary's Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2200, Jefferson, MA 01522.
