LANCASTER – Ernest "Sonny" L. Johnson, 79, of 59 Otis Street, died Saturday, October 11, 2008, at UMass Memorial Healthcare, Lake Avenue, Worcester after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Nancy E. (Carl) Johnson; two daughters, Charlene A. McNamara and her husband Owen of Fitchburg and Sandra L. Saute and her husband Thomas of Stow; two sons, Gary D. Johnson and his wife Grace of Lancaster and Richard E. Johnson and his wife Cyndi of Franklin; two sisters, Virginia I. Collins of Clinton and Arletta S. Ross of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Peter, Paul, Mark, Michael, Meredith, Daniel and Catherine; five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Matthew, Kelley, Erin and Adriana; nephews and nieces. He was born in Clinton, the son of Horace and Edith (Kirk) Johnson and lived most of his life in Lancaster.
Mr. Johnson attended Lancaster Schools and served in Germany for the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an industrial pipefitter for ITT Surprenant, Inc. in Clinton where he worked 39 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. He was an avid walker and his passion was working in his workshop where he was known to his friends and family as "Mr. Fix-it".
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15th in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Rd. (Rte. 12), Sterling. Burial will follow in Eastwood Cemetery, Old Common Road, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Massachusetts Chapter, 29 Crafts Street, Newton, MA 02160; or Trinity Lutheran Church, Roof Fund, 117 Chace Street, Clinton, MA 01510.
