Solomon 'Sol' Carl Hurwitz

Biography
WORCESTER - Solomon “Sol” C. Hurwitz, 101, died on Monday, October 26, 2015 at JFK Hospital in Atlantis, Florida.
His first wife, Judith (Goldberg) Hurwitz died in 1983. His second wife, Ruth (Wanger) Hurwitz died in 2003. He leaves two sons, Barry Hurwitz of West Palm Beach, FL and David Hurwitz and his wife, Claire of Novato, CA; three daughters, Barbara, wife of Jules Rako of New York City, Janie Press of New York City, and Jody, wife of Albert Parziale of Daniel Island, SC; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Maurice Hurwitz and by his four sisters, Dorothy Berlyn, Ethel Goldstein, Julia Poliakin, and Sofia Sheftel.
He was born in Worcester a son of Louis and Anna (Ulman) Hurwitz and lived here for 71 years prior to moving to Palm Beach in 1985 for 25 years, and moving to Lantana, FL five years ago.
He graduated from University of Indiana and received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Harvard University. With his brother Maurice, he owned and operated Consolidated Beverages of Auburn which was a family business founded by their father and uncle many years earlier in Worcester.
During World War II, he served in the United States Navy for 5 years, one year in Puerto Rico, and 4 years in Norfolk, Virginia.
He was a long time member of Beth Israel Synagogue, Worcester Lodge of B’Nai Brith, the Jewish Healthcare Center and Level Lodge of Masons. He was a Past President of Probus club.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 11:00 AM ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30TH AT BETH ISRAEL SYNAGOGUE ON JAMESBURY DRIVE IN WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery.
Memorial Observance will be held Friday afternoon, October 30th at the Beechwood Hotel, 363 Plantation Street, Worcester.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
