WORCESTER - Sidney Z. Smith died on January 5, 2019 with his devoted daughters by his side. His beloved wife, Fran, died in 2017. Sid leaves behind two beloved daughters; Deborah Baker, and her husband Eliott, and Ellen Smith and her partner Scott Roberts and a beautiful granddaughter Elyssa and her husband T.J., two sisters-in-law, Susan Smith, wife of deceased brother Marc and Janice Seder, wife of deceased brother-in-law Alan. He also leaves nephews, nieces and friends who were as dear as family.
Sid was a product designer and printing salesman. Son of the late Dorothy and Louis V. Smith, he attended Commerce High, Wagner School of Art and N.Y. Phoenix School of Design. He was a product designer for Bolta, Rayovac, General Tire and Tupperware. Later in life, he was a printing salesman with Randolph Press, Deerfield Press and S and F Sales.
A leader in Boy Scouts, Sid chaired the Advancement Committee, was active in Troop 36, received numerous awards including Silver Beaver, Baden Powell and several regional awards. Sid was a proud Navy veteran – enlisted at age 17 and served on the aircraft carrier, Saipan, as an airplane Captain in a fighter squadron.
Sid was a member of Congregation Beth Israel, its Brotherhood, B’Nai Brith, Jewish Healthcare Center, Post #32 of the Jewish War Veterans, Worcester Art Museum and the Tatnuck Neighborhood Association. Sid volunteered at various non-profits, and donated to numerous causes. He and Fran were sponsors of many Guatemalan children through Children’s International.
Sid was exceptionally patriotic, engaged in local and national politics, had a great sense of humor and was extremely kind hearted. He would help anyone in need. His smile touched hearts.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, January 8 at B’Nai Brith Cemetery, St. John’s Road, Worcester. At 3:30PM, following the graveside service, a Memorial Service will be held at the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richard Perlman of Miles Funeral Home in Holden.
