Biography

WORCESTER – Sidney L. Sloane, 95, died on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Jewish Healthcare Center.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, Ann (Feigenson) Sloane; a son, Randy Sloane and his wife, Marcia of Sharon; a daughter, Debra Sloane of Washington, CT; four grandchildren, Emily, wife of David Rosati of N. Chelmsford, Abigail Sloane of Quincy, Kathryn Tanner of New York City and Alison Tanner of Washington, DC; and two great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Sloane and two sisters, Lillian Bass and Ruth Furhman.
He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of Harry and Dora (Ritz) Slonimsky, and lived here his entire life.
He graduated from the University of Alabama.
In 1942, Sid enlisted in the United States Army and received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Silver Star while serving with the 121st Infantry in the European Theatre.  He fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
After returning home from the war, Sid went to work at his family’s business, Slonimsky & Ritz Delicatessen on Water Street.  Later he was a salesman in the food industry for the remainder of his working career.
He was a member of Temple Emanuel Sinai, Worcester Lodge of B’Nai Brith, the Jewish War Veterans and the Level Lodge of Masons.
A GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 11 A.M. ON SUNDAY, MAY 28, AT B N’AI BRITH CEMETERY on ST. JOHN’S ROAD IN WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN.
Memorial Observance will be held through 3 P.M. on Sunday, May 28, at the Clubhouse of Salisbury West, 770 Salisbury Street, Worcester and will continue from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the family residence in the Concord Building at Salisbury West. A Minyan Service will be held at 7:00 P.M.  Memorial Observance will continue from 2 to 5 P.M. and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, May 29 at the family residence in the Concord Building at Salisbury West with a Minyan Service to be held at 7 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
