WORCESTER – Arthur S. Holmquist, Jr., Esquire, 60, of Worcester, died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, with Pulmonary Fibrosis for which there is no known cause or cure.
He leaves his devoted wife of 32 years, Susan A. Holmquist; a brother, Paul R. Holmquist and his wife Doreen of Yarmouth Port; a sister, Donna Barry of Worcester; brother-in-laws and sister-in-law, Tim and Mary Foley of Westborough and Francis Cordial of Sterling; several nephews and nieces, Jessica Tamsym Holmquist, Christopher, Evan and Andrew Foley, Keith and Melissa Cordial, Craig and Kirsten Prindle, and Erin and Edward Barry; and grandnephews and nieces, Shannen Prindle, Quinn and Merideth Cordial. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur S. and Doris M. (Smith) Holmquist, Sr., and his brother, Wayne B. Holmquist of Shrewsbury.
Arthur was born in Worcester and was raised in Shrewsbury and has resided in Worcester for many years. He was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He attended the College of the Holy Cross and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Nichols College. He earned a Master's Degree in Business from Bentley College in Waltham and a Juris Doctorate degree from the New England School of Law in Boston. While attending law school, Arthur was the Director of Produce for the Iandoli Supermarket chain. He practiced law in Massachusetts and was the Legal Council and Closing Attorney for the Sherwood Mortgage Group in Worcester for many years. Additionally, he taught Business Law at Nichols College. He was a member of St. George's Church and the Worcester Club. Arthur was an avid golfer and enjoyed deep sea fishing with his nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7th, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Arthur will be held on Thursday, January 8th, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester.
