HOLDEN - Shirley E. (Whalen) Orciuch, 87, of Holden, MA, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her loving home on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015. She was the daughter of Charles and Alice (Dwyer) Whalen.
Shirley was the devoted and proud mother of eight children. She leaves behind two daughters, Shirley Schnare and her husband John of Holden, with whom she made her home, and Deborah George of Shrewsbury; and four sons, Edward Orciuch and his wife Linda of Falmouth, David Orciuch and his wife Gail of Hubbardston, Timothy Orciuch and his wife Kathy of Holden, and Joseph Orciuch and his wife Tracey of Bourne. Two sons predeceased her, Stephen and Robert Orciuch. She also leaves her one brother, Charles Whalen and his wife Mila, of Carlsbad, CA. Shirley was the loving grandmother of 26 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Shirley was happiest spending time with her extremely close-knit family. Referred to as “Gram” by all who knew her, Shirley enjoyed her well-known presence at all of her grandchildren’s sporting events. Her daily stops at the grocery store and monthly bus trips to Foxwoods brought her much joy and excitement, as did her summers at Hampton Beach and visits to Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Shirley also treasured her time at home preparing meals, watching game shows, and keeping up with the lives of those around her. She took great care of her family, was a teacher of important life lessons, and was known for her quick wit and hilarious sayings. She was beautiful inside and out and will be deeply missed.
Final arrangements are private and under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St. Holden, MA. In lieu of flowers, have a special toast to celebrate “Gram” with your loved ones!
