Shirley M. (Brown) Neal

HOLDEN – Shirley M. (Brown) Neal, 94, of 3 Oak Crest Road, died on Saturday, December 31, 2005, in her home after an illness.

Her husband, William T. Neal, died in 1980. She leaves three daughters, Mary Lou DeCollibus of Englewood, Florida, Shirley M. Finocchio with whom she lived and Kate I. Petkus of Port Orange, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. A daughter, Ruth Ann McNabb, died in 2001. She was born in Oxford, New York, the daughter of Herbert and Velma (Ketchum) Brown, and lived many years in Saxonville and 28 years in Englewood, Florida before moving to Holden several years ago.

Mrs. Neal graduated from Bryant-Stratton Business School in Boston and was a librarian in the Framingham Public Library for over 20 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson and a former member of St. Raphael’s Church in Englewood. She shared her love of reading with her grandchildren.

A funeral Mass for Mrs. Neal will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will be private in River View Cemetery, Oxford, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gale Free Library, Special Gift’s Fund, 23 Highland Street, Holden, MA 01520. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
