PAXTON – Shirley (Malo) Sundstrom, 80, of Richards Ave., died Sunday, January 18, 2009 in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after a brief illness.
Her husband of 56 years, Warren "Chubby" R. Sundstrom, died in 2005. She is survived by her son, Gary P. Sundstrom and his wife Roberta of Holden; a granddaughter, Beth Sundstrom and her husband Bryan Joffe of Providence; a brother, Ernest Malo, Jr. and his wife Norma of Holden; two sisters, Janice George and her husband Harold of Spencer and Sharon Boilard and her husband George of CT; and 7 nieces and nephews. A son, Wayne R. Sundstrom, predeceased her in 1998. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Ernest and Ethel (Aldrin) Malo, and lived in Worcester before moving to Paxton 50 years ago.
Shirley worked as a stitcher for David Clark Company in Worcester for a number of years, retiring in 1970. She was an avid and talented seamstress and enjoyed a number of arts and crafts. An active gardener, she grew flowers and vegetables; and enjoyed visiting with neighborhood friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 22nd, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Shirley will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home with burial following in Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Paxton Council on Aging, 17 West Street, Paxton, MA 01612.
