Shirley (Bergman) Katz

Biography

WORCESTER – Shirley Miriam (Bergman) Katz, age 66, died on Sunday, March 18th after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  She fought her cancer with unspeakable bravery and dignity.  Her memory will live on through her family and friends.  Shirley leaves her husband of 41 years, Philip M. Katz; two sons, Joshua Katz and his wife, Katherine of Washington, DC and Jacob Katz of Worcester; a daughter, Sarah Katz and her fiancé, Kevin Feyjoo of Worcester; three brothers, Moe Bergman and his wife, Wendy of Worcester, Dr. Michael Bergman and his wife, Merle of Miami, FL and Samuel Bergman and his wife, Marsha of Newton; and two granddaughters, Olivia and Ella Katz.  We are humbled and honored for the time we got to spend with her. Shirley was born in Worcester, the daughter of Holocaust survivors Wolf and Pola (Aron) Bergman. Shirley was a lifelong Worcester resident and a graduate of Doherty Memorial High School and Worcester State College. Shirley went on to work as a district manager for several women’s clothing stores and as an administrator for several area hospitals and healthcare systems. We would like to thank the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital for their exceptional care and support over the last few years. GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 12:00 NOON, TODAY, TUESDAY, MARCH 20th AT B’NAI BRITH CEMETERY ON ST. JOHN’S ROAD, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN.Memorial Observance will be held at the residence of Moe and Wendy Bergman at 11 Kensington Heights, Worcester on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday and Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Minyan services will be held each night at 7:00 PM at the residence.Please omit flowers.
