Biography
WORCESTER – Shirley Rose (Barber) Lawton, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, at the Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence in Worcester, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Samuel and Maud (Oliver) Barber. She was a lifelong resident of Worcester.
Shirley graduated from South High School and worked as an assistant manager at Fortin’s Market in Greendale for many years. She enjoyed traveling, baking and spending time with her family.
In addition to her beloved husband of 67 years, George R. Lawton, Sr., she leaves her two sons, George R. Lawton, Jr. and his wife, Katharine of Leicester and Gary R. Lawton and his wife, Catherine of Worcester; her grandchildren, Dawn Liss, Tina Spurr, Leah Cross and Nicholas Lawton; 8 great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandson; her brother, Norman Barber of Bonita Springs, FL; and her sisters, Marjorie Rochefort of Wheatridge, CO and Jeanette Billips of Bristol, NH. She was predeceased by her siblings, John and Clifford Barber, Althea McNulty, Eva Norogian and Emma Barber.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Shirley's family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St., Worcester, on Friday, March 28. Interment will follow at Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
