PAXTON – Sharon M. (Lyra) O’Day, 67, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital after an illness. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Toivo M. and Auli T. (Maki) Lyra and graduated from Wachusett Regional High School and Becker Jr. College.
She leaves her husband of 45 years, John “Jay” O’Day III; two son, John J. O’Day IV of Paxton and Patrick L. O’Day and his wife, Jessica of Rutland; two grandchildren, Johnny and Justine O’Day; nephews, a niece and her loving cat “Linus”. She was predeceased by her sister, Janice M. Fanning in 1999.
Sharon owned and operated Cunningham Oil Company with her husband for 36 years before retiring. Previously, she worked at Mass Electric in Westborough. She spent summers with her family at Lake Winnipesaukee and was a member of the Mountain View Yacht Club, the First Congregational Church in Paxton and the Finnish Heritage Society Sovittaja in Rutland.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Paxton, 1 Church Street. A private committal service will be held at the convenience of the family at Mooreland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Shelter Inc. (Sterling Animal Shelter), 17 Laurelwood Road, Sterling, MA 01564, or American Lung Association of Massachusetts, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451.
Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
