Seth G. Thomas

WORCESTER – Seth G. Thomas, 80, of Worcester, died on Friday, September 20, 2013, under the loving care of his family and the staff at the Meadows of Central Mass, Leicester after a long illness. He was born in Worcester, the son of Michael and Patricia (Calcagni) Thomas and had lived in Worcester all his life.

Seth graduated from Commerce High School and served in the US Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. He attended Vesper School of Art in Boston and worked in construction. In 1956, he and his longtime business partner, Ronald Shadbegian, bought the Kozy Korner Variety Store on Lincoln Street in Worcester and together they owned several rental properties. In the 1970’s they opened the Kozy Korner Liquors and T.O. Flynn’s Restaurant Pub and Lounge both in Worcester and Chubby’s Liquors in Hudson. Seth opened Crickets Restaurant in Holden in 1986 which he ran until 1995.

He was a member of the Civitan Club, Wachusett Area Rotary Club and was the president from 1971-1972 of the former Worcester Area Association for Retarded Children, now known as the Seven Hills Foundation. He loved drawing, sculpting, boxing, sailboats, tennis and cooking. He will be sadly missed by all of his friends and family.

His wife of 40 years, Mary T. (Tulowieki) Thomas passed away in 1998. He is survived by two sons, Stephen W. Thomas and David S. Thomas, both of Worcester; two nieces and a nephew; and longtime friend, Katie Pastor.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 23, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln Street, Worcester.
