STERLING – Vitte S. Dayutis, 87, of Princeton Road, died Thursday, September 24, 2009 in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after a brief illness.
His wife of 53 years, Marjorie R. (Brown) Dayutis, died in 1995. He leaves two sons, Dean J. Dayutis of New Hampshire and Michael A. Dayutis of Sterling; a sister, Jerry Shackett of Worcester; eight grandchildren, James, Gina, Dana, Duane, Dawn, Sarah, Marnie and Jesse; and 13 great-grandchildren. A son, Brian S. Dayutis, died in 1982.
Vitte was born in Worcester, the son of Simon P. and Isabella (Kilimayiuto) Dayutis, and lived in Holden for 30 years before moving to Sterling 20 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the 422d Infantry Regiment, European African Middle Eastern Theatre. He worked for Simpson Excavating for many years. After his retirement, he worked as a self employed masonry contractor and later for Price Chopper in West Boylston. He was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 30th, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, 1326 Main Street, Holden. Donations in Vitte's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
