RUTLAND - Sarah Harrington Williams passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024 at the age of 87. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts to the late Robert D. Harrington, Sr. and Anne Harrington.
Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Jefferson E. Williams, as well as two of Jefferson’s children, Jeff and Suzanne, and one grandchild, Chantelle. She is survived by her husband’s son, David Williams and his wife Christine, their children, Krista and Tiffany, grandchild Rebecca Depace, (Suzanne’s daughter), and Jefferson III and Danielle, (Jefferson’s children) and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Clare G. Harrington.
Sarah went to Bancroft School in Worcester and attended Sargent College in Boston. Sarah was a highly skilled equestrian and competed at Madison Square Garden on at least one occasion. She was also an accomplished golfer and enjoyed her “Sports Club” group of fellow golfers.
But Sarah’s grand passion was the Treasure Hunt Farm, a non-profit farm animal sanctuary in Rutland, Massachusetts which operates for the purpose of providing shelter and care and prevention of cruelty to animals. She started Treasure Hunt Farm with her late husband in 2000 and never looked back. As far as anyone knows, Sarah never refused a request from a veterinarian, whether it was from Tufts Veterinary School in Grafton, Massachusetts or a local veterinarian whom she did not know or a farmer who might come by the farm with an ailing pig that he could not treat. Sarah’s heart and acceptance of any animal that came her way knew no bounds and she never said ‘no’ to any request of Treasure Hunt Farm that involved taking in and caring for animals.
While Sarah could be shy with people she did not know well, with friends she was outgoing and always offered help to anyone who she thought might need it.
A celebration of her life will be held on at 12:00 pm on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the First Baptist Church on Park Avenue in Worcester, with a reception following. Donations in her memory may be made to Treasure Hunt Farm Foundation, P.O. Box 696, Rutland, MA. 01543. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
