Ralph ''Santa'' Meagher

WESTMINSTER – Ralph “Santa” Meagher, 80, of 61 Main Street, died on Friday, January 12, 2007, in his home.

His wife of 48 years, Doris L. (Lytle) Meagher, died in 1995. He leaves a daughter, Robin Moisan of Westminster; four sons, Michael Meagher of Portland, Maine, Joseph Meagher of Richmond, Maine, Timothy Meagher of Savannah, Georgia and Daniel Meagher of Youngstown, New York; four brothers, James Meagher of Rutland, William Meagher of California, Robert Meager of Hubbardston and Fred “Doc” Meagher of Hubbardston; four sisters, Ruth Kinsley of Baldwinville, Phyllis McGrath of Burlington and June Lindsten of Hubbardston and Eunice Valley of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. His son, John Meagher died in 2006. Two brothers, Wendall and Earl Meagher, also predeceased him. He was born in Holden the son of James and Lilla (Clark) Meagher and lived many years in Hubbardston and 55 years in Westminster.

Ralph graduated from Worcester Boy’s Trade High School and owned and operated numerous local businesses including New England Training Academy of Central Massachusetts. He was a long time building inspector in Athol, Ashburnham and Petersham. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater aboard the U.S.S. Bennington. One of Ralph’s greatest joys was portraying “Santa Claus” for his family and children organizations throughout Worcester County, which he did for over 45 years.

The funeral service for Mr. Meagher will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Barre Road, Hubbardston. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, in the funeral home.
