GLENWOOD SPRINGS, CO/HOLDEN – Sam R. Olen, 32, passed away on July 26, 2024, after a long-time struggle with addiction. Born in Worcester and raised in Holden, he was the beloved son of David and Dawn Olen and Laurie Ann (Currie) Powers. Sam graduated from Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical High School with the class of 2010.
After high school, Sam worked for several retailers, including Walmart and Tractor Supply Co. Most recently, he excelled as the manager of Kum and Go convenience store in Glenwood Springs, CO. Sam had a unique ability to connect with his customers, making everyone feel appreciated and special. Despite his struggles with alcohol addiction, Sam was able to help others facing similar challenges through outreach and advocacy.
Sam was passionate about sports, especially cheering on the Bruins and the Mets. His legacy of kindness and service to others will be deeply missed.
Sam will be lovingly remembered by his son, Noah Olen; his daughter, Lanora Jennings; his mother, Laurie Ann (Currie) Powers of Webster; his father, David M. Olen and his wife, Dawn Marie Placentino-Olen of Holden; his brothers, Jonathan Olen and his partner, Megan Banach of Worcester, and Tommy Housman and his fiancée, Amanda Larochelle of Thompson, CT; his grandmother, Karen Currie of Charlton; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sam also leaves behind his close friends and coworkers, Claude and Chuck of Glenwood Springs, CO.
The Olen family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, CO, for their compassion and dedication while caring for Sam.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at St. John’s Church, 44 Temple St., Worcester. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team’s jersey in honor of Sam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Food for the Poor Program, 20 Temple St., Worcester, MA 01604. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
