Sally A. (Wade) Magaw

STERLING – Sally A. (Wade) Magaw, 81, of Sterling, passed away peacefully at home under the loving care of her family and friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Born in Clinton and raised in Sterling, Sally was the daughter of Walter and Marian (Moore) Wade and lived in Sterling most of her life.

Sally graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and worked as a switchboard operator in Sterling for New England Telephone Co. She later worked 30 years as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Sterling and many years at the Green Meadow Lodge. She was a member of The First Church in Sterling, Sterling Historical Society, National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was also a life member of the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Auxiliary.

Sally was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend and will be remembered for her love of animals and taking long walks. Everyone who knew her, knew her dogs were her babies. Sally loved to read, she loved flowers and working in the garden. She was extremely organized and hardworking, very generous and was always happiest taking care of someone else. She also loved to swim and spent many summers on the coast of Maine. Her most cherished moments were with her son, family and close friends.

Her husband of 40 years, Milford Magaw died in 1992. She leaves her son, Clyde W. Magaw of Princeton; two brothers, Roland C. and Alan L. Wade both of Sterling; nephews and nieces; and a close friend, Edmund “Slim” Wronski of Sterling. Besides her husband Sally is predeceased by a brother, Walter E. Wade and a sister, Joan Jablonski.

A funeral service honoring Sally’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, at The First Church in Sterling, 6 Meetinghouse Hill Road, Sterling. The Rev. Robin Bartlett will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cumming’s Veterinary Fund, 200 Westborough Road, North Grafton, MA 01536. Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling, is directing arrangements.
