Biography
WORCESTER – Sadie (Kaplan) Shapiro, age 94, died on Monday, June 6th at the Jewish Healthcare Center.
Her husband of 58 years, Jerome Shapiro, died in 1999. She leaves two sons, Martin Shapiro and his wife, Yukan of Sierra Vista, AZ and Gary Shapiro of Laguna Woods, CA; a daughter, Bernice, wife of Barry Dworman of Worcester; a sister, Sylvia “Symme” Kramer of Severna Park, MD; four grandchildren, Wendy, wife of Michael Friedman of Marlboro, NJ, Scott Dworman, and his wife Dr. Nancy Berley of Holden, Caleb Shapiro of AZ, and Leah Shapiro of Pheonix; five great-grandchildren, Kayla and Joshua Friedman, Daniel, Lexie, and Talia Dworman.
She was born in Worcester a daughter of Zelig and Bessie (Karbelnick) Kaplan and was a lifelong resident.
She worked for 22 years as a re-write insurance department supervisor for Paul Revere Insurance Company. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish Healthcare Center, an avid knitter and she loved to have family outings.
She was a Horace Mann graduate of Commerce High School in 1940.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 11:00 AM ON THURSDAY, JUNE 9TH IN THE JEWISH HEALTHCARE CENTER, 629 SALISBURY STREET UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery.
Immediately following the interment service Memorial Observance will be held through 5:00 PM on Thursday at the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury Street. A Minyan Service will be held at 4:30 PM.
