Biography
SHREWSBURY/HOLDEN – Ruth E. (Pendrak) Oslund, 90, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2014, under the loving care of her family and the staff at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in West Boylston. Born and raised in Ware, Ruth was the daughter of Joseph and Sophia (Cebula) Pendrak and lived in Holden, Rutland and, for the past 20 years, Shrewsbury.
Her husband of 49 years, Charles “Bud” H. Oslund died in 1994. She is survived by two daughters, Jo-Anne “Jody” Shyllberg and her husband Robert of West Boylston and Barbara Oslund and her husband Richard Quinlan of Pittsboro, North Carolina; a brother, Joseph Pendrak of Port Charlotte, Florida; two grandchildren, Sarah and Jonathan Shyllberg; and many nephews and nieces. Besides her husband, Ruth is predeceased by her son Charles H. Oslund, Jr., who lost his life as an infant in the1953 tornado.
Prior to having children, Ruth was a telephone operator at Rutland Heights Hospital and, in later years, she was the bookkeeper for her husband’s business. She enjoyed crocheting and needlepoint and will be fondly remembered by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ruth’s family from 11 to 12 noon on Saturday, November 15, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a memorial service honoring her life at 12 noon. The Rev. Stephen Small will be officiating. Interment will follow at Grove Cemetery in Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Worcester County Food Bank, 474 Boston Turnpike Rd., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
