WORCESTER/QUINCY – Ruth F. (Griffin) Irwin, 66, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the home of Mary Griffin on Monday, August 31, 2009.
Her husband, Thomas Irwin, died in 2000. She leaves her sister, Joyce Griffin of Everett; a sister-in-law with whom she lived, Mary L. Griffin; two nephews, Michael Griffin of Worcester and Joseph Griffin of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; a cousin, Esther MacCaffrey of Hull; and several grandnephews and nieces. A brother, John Griffin died in 1999 and a niece, Kathy Jennings predeceased her.
Ruth was born in Boston and raised in Worcester, the daughter of Walter and Frances (Hill) Griffin, and lived many years in Quincy before returning to Worcester in 2004. She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Worcester and was later an X-ray Technician in the Boston area for many years. She enjoyed traveling.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 4th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will be private in Milton Cemetery, Milton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Massachusetts Veterans Shelter, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
