HOLDEN – Ruth C. Agar, 86, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester. Born in Holden, Ruth was the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Solin) Agar and lived 50 years in Holden.
Ruth graduated from Holden High School and was a receptionist for Sprague Electric in Worcester and Digital Equipment Corporation in Boylston. She was a costume designer for the Skating Club of Worcester, a member of the Doll Club of America, as well as the secretary and hospitality chairman of the League of American Wheelmen. Ruth was an active member of the Seven Hills Wheelmen, Worcester’s cycling club, and traveled over 1,500 miles a year on her bicycle. Her fun natured spirit, adoration of the outdoors, huge smile, and generous spirit was a gift to all who knew her.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Charles H. Smith and his wife Dione of Florida, Christopher A. Smith and his wife Karen of Sterling; two daughters, Patricia J. Tiberii and her husband Russell of Florida and Peg L. Bonner of Florida; a brother, Raymond Agar and his wife Clara of Maine; eight grandchildren, Santino Tiberii, Jennifer Solin and Luz Gonzalez, Todd and Brittany Bonner, and Charissa and Jocelyn Smith; and one long time companion, TR (Teddy Roosevelt), her teddy bear.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial calling hours from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a memorial service honoring Ruth’s life at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Green Mountain Club/Worcester Section, 4711 Waterbury-Stowe Rd., Waterbury Center, VT 05677, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Vermont’s hiking trails.
