Cecil Russell Seymour Jr.

July 21, 1927 — October 11, 2008

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother

SOUTH LANCASTER - Cecil Russell Seymour Jr. died at St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester on Saturday, October 11, 2008 following a recent surgery at the age of 81. He was born in Lancaster on July 21, 1927 and was the son of Cecil Russell Seymour Sr. and Edna Seymour, of Lancaster. His family had lived in Lancaster for over 120 years.

Mr. Seymour spent almost his entire life in Lancaster and loved it. He developed a love of skiing at an early age and frequently competed at the Lancaster Ski Jump competitions on George Hill throughout the forties. He was a 1945 graduate of Lancaster High School.

Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving as Engineman on the destroyer, the William C. Lawe, for four years where he was stationed in Sasebo, Japan and patrolled the Pacific. He was then called to serve in the Mediterranean region and while there, he skied the Italian Alps in the Dolomite region. In addition to his love of skiing, he had a lifelong passion for cars and hockey and prior to enlisting he often traded his mechanic skills in exchange for free tickets and a ride into Boston to see his beloved Bruins. He was an avid follower of car racing.

After his tour in the Navy, he met and married his beloved wife of 57 years, Frances Czarnecki of Clinton. They settled in Lancaster and Cecil went to work for New England Telephone/AT&T, retiring as a regional supervisor after 42 years of service.
Cecil was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved life and was a hard-working, honest guy who had great integrity and values. He lived his life helping his family and friends, and was entirely devoted to his family. His greatest satisfaction came from visiting and being with his family. He greatly valued the simple things and was truly a "guy's guy" who was immediately liked and loved by those that knew him. He was considered one of a kind and he will be greatly missed.

His survivors include his loving wife, Frances Seymour of Lancaster, his two daughters, Catherine Seymour of Worcester and Andrea Seymour-McCauley of Darien, CT, and his son, Robert Seymour of Barre. He was also very proud of and devoted to his two grandsons, Jake McCauley of Darien, CT and Matthew Seymour of Barre. His three sisters Phyllis Jablonski of Oxford, Martha Gibson of Rutland and Jeanne Mosa of Weatogue, CT as well as numerous nieces and nephews, also survive him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21st, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A private burial will be held at the Eastwood Cemetery in Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
