HOLDEN – Russell R. Henry, 86, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 30, 2013. Born and raised in Spencer, Russell was the son of Willard P. and Irene B. (Fairbrother) Henry and lived many years in Worcester before moving to Holden in 1998.
After graduating from David Prouty High School in Spencer, Russell enlisted in the U.S. Navy where honorably served his country during WWII as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS Benson and the USS Wilkes in the Asiatic Theatre.
Russell was a service representative for Coppus Engineering Corp in Worcester for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Alhambra 88 Council, in Worcester. He enjoyed many trips with his wife as well as ballroom dancing and playing golf. He loved watching New England sports and game shows on TV.
His wife, Gertrude A. (Benoit) Henry, passed away in 2011. He leaves his sons, Mark P. Massey of Worcester and Earl T. Massey of Holden; his daughters, Donna M. Drisco of Charlton, Lynn A. Duval of Belfast, Maine, and Joyce M. Kalvinek of Millbury; his brother, George Henry of North Tonawanda, New York; his sister, Barbara Starr of Lockport, New York; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gladys M. (Kaliszewski) Henry in 1990; his sons, Russell R. Henry II and Steven A. Massey; his sisters, Margaret Gay and Bernice Davis; and his brother, Willard P. Henry, Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Russell’s family from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a procession to St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson for a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton.
