WORCESTER – Eugene R. Thibodeau, Sr., 91, of Coventry Road, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 in the Saint Francis Home, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 64 years, E. Lucille (Boucher) Thibodeau; two sons, David B. Thibodeau and his wife Carolyn and Leonard A. Thibodeau, all of Worcester; a daughter, Nancy D. Clapperton and her husband John of Auburn; a granddaughter, Kim Barone of Rutland; three great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. A son, Eugene R. Thibodeau, Jr. died in 1995, and a daughter, Jaimie aka Sally Thibodeau, died in 1978. Five brothers and five sisters predeceased him. He was born in Waterville, Maine, a son of Daniel J. and Angele (Beaulieu) Thibodeau, was raised in Princeton and graduated Princeton High School. He lived in West Boylston for 20 years before moving to Worcester in 1975.
Mr. Thibodeau was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the 1st Armored Division, Company C 1st Tank Battalion, in Africa and Italy within the European African Middle Eastern Theatre. He received the Purple Heart, five combat stars and the American Defense, American Campaign and the Good Conduct Medals. He was a heating technician for Exxon Oil Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1983. Previously, he was owner and operator of Greendale Heating Company. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6907 in West Boylston and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4 in Worcester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 1st, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. His funeral will be held on Friday, April 2nd, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Liturgy of the Word in St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in Quabbin Park Cemetery, Ware. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veterans Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
