PAXTON - Elisabeth R. (Swan) Smith, 86, formerly of Troy, New York, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008.
Her husband of 58 years, Robert R. Smith, died in 2002. She leaves her daughter, Ansley D. Siter and her husband Steven of Paxton; a granddaughter, Phoebe A. Siter of Springfield; a grandson, Nathan A. Siter and his wife Marjo and two great grandchildren, Niilo and Vilho of Tampere, Finland; and her special attendant, Ekira Muriithi. She was born in Trenton, NJ, the daughter of Charles E. and Eliza (Magill) Swan and moved to the Worcester area from Troy, NY following a stroke in 2002.
Mrs. Smith was a devoted housewife and homemaker. She enjoyed traveling extensively around the world with her husband, a professor at RPI. She enjoyed reading, sewing for her family, volunteering, and was an accomplished watercolorist. She loved caring for her grandchildren and had a close relationship with her granddaughter, who helped care for her. She was extremely happy to have known her two great grandsons, who visited with their parents from Finland last year. Elisabeth was very content to spend her last years near her family in a house built especially for her in Paxton where she could watch the birds, animals and flowers from her porches.
A private memorial service for Mrs. Smith will be held at a later date. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
