Roy E. Boynton

STERLING/PLYMOUTH – Roy E. Boynton, Jr., 88, of Court St., Plymouth, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011, under the loving care of his family and the staff at the Life Care Center, Plymouth. His wife of 65 years, Marjorie H. (Canane) Boynton, died this past May.

He was born and raised in Sterling, son of Roy E. and Anna (Strang) Boynton, Sr. and later lived in Marston Mills before moving to Plymouth in 2001. After graduating from West Boylston High School, Roy enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he honorably served his country during World War II aboard USS Pennsylvania in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. While in the service he earned several commendations including, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon -5 Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon -2 Stars, and the Navy Unit Commendation. Roy worked at Warner & Swasey Company in Worcester as an electrician for 25 years retiring in 1982.

Roy was a member of the First Church in Sterling, Eight Point Sportsmen’s Club, coached little league, and was a Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop # 1 in Sterling.

He is survived by two sons, Robert E. Boynton and his wife Karen of Plymouth and Richard R. Boynton of Warren; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Imogene Salluce and a brother, Leslie Boynton, predeceased him.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Roy’s family at 12 noon and attend his funeral service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling.
