Ross S. Yanco

February 10, 1970 — February 26, 2012

RUTLAND – Ross S. Yanco, 42, of Richards Avenue, died unexpectedly in his home Sunday, February 26, 2012, after returning home from what he called, “the best week of his life” spent at Disney World in Orlando, Florida with his family. He was born in Boston, the son of the late Norman Yanco and grandson of the late Hyman and Bernice Yanco, and lived in Peabody; Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Rochester Hills, Michigan before moving to Rutland in 2003.

Ross graduated from the Pingree School in South Hamilton, Bryant University, Smithfield, Rhode Island in 1992 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, and received a Master’s Degree in Sports Marketing from East Straudsburg University, Pennsylvania in 1995. After graduating college, he went to work in the family business, Continental Supply Company in Woburn. He later worked for the Worcester Ice Cats as their Director of Sponsorships, and in 1998, held the same position at USA Hockey. In 2003, Ross went to work for Daktronics, an electronic scoreboard and a sport display product company, as a regional sales manager. He was a member and former president of Petersham Country Club.

Although Ross lived only nine years in Rutland, he embraced the community as if he were born and raised there. He found the quintessential New England community where he and his wife could raise their family. He enjoyed coaching youth sports in Rutland, including Little League and basketball for all of Nicholas’ and Zoe’s teams. He will always be remembered for his kind heartedness, passion for life, and most of all, his love for his family.

He is survived and will be lovingly missed by his wife of 16 years, Kirsten K. (Kirousis) Yanco, and their children, Nicholas C. and Zoe H. Yanco; his mother, Carol N. (Nemlich) Perlmutter of Peabody; a brother, Benjamin Perlmutter of Peabody; aunts and uncles including Kenneth Yanco and his wife Elissa of Natick and Dr. Wayne Glazier and his wife Laura of Worcester; cousins, Beth and Jocelyn Yanco and Marta and Tobey Glazier; Kirsten’s parents, Linda and Charles Kirousis of Petersham; a brother-in-law, William Kirousis and his wife Rosemary of Leominster; a niece and a nephew, Emily and William Kirousis of Leominster.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral service honoring Ross’ life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 2, at the Orthodox Congregational Church of Petersham, 21 North Main Street, Petersham. Burial will follow in East Street Cemetery, Petersham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Yanco Childrens’ Scholarship Fund”, c/o Bay State Savings Bank, 628 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520.
