Rosemarie (Santos) Macpherson

April 22, 1937 — May 12, 2015

STERLING - Rosemarie (Santos) MacPherson, aka "Roro", long time resident of Sterling, exited this life at home surrounded by her loving family and friends, after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer.

She was a professional artist, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her loving husband, Charles MacPherson died in 1999. She leaves behind her daughter, Heather Rockwell and husband, Sheldon of Hudson, Ma, her daughter, Anne Faith Day and partner, Andrew Brown of Princeton and son, Stuart MacPherson and wife JoEllen, of Jefferson. She also leaves behind her grandson, Jesse Marsolais and his wife Meg, who lived with Rosemarie and took care of her at night, grandson, Keith MacPherson of Sterling and granddaughter, her "Princess" Petty Officer Kianna MacPherson USN, stationed in Jacksonville, Fla. Rosemarie also leaves behind four loving step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren. Rosemarie leaves her in-laws, Rosemary and Vic Rimkus, Tony Rock, Patsy and Paul Sullivan, Joe and Margaret MacPherson, many nieces, nephews, cousins, great friends, and devoted cats.

Rosemarie was born in Hudson, Ma, April 22, 1937, the daughter of the late Joaquim and Pauline (Diani) Santos. She was the sister of the late Jack Santos, all of Hudson. She also leaves behind an Aunt, Mary Diani. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1954, and Famous Artist School. She graduated from Worcester State College in 1984 and was a friend of Bill W. since 1978.

She had a celebrated career, painting in oils and acrylic, as well as pen and ink. She developed her own techniques. Her work was shown worldwide, including a one woman show at Rockefeller Center in New York. Rosemarie was always willing to bring her artistry to help her community. In 2007 she was commissioned to do a painting commemorating the Sterling Fair, which hangs in the Selectman's office. She designed the town cover for the Sterling Annual Town Report for over 30 years as well as the memorabilia for the Sterling Fair. Rosemarie, along with her husband, was very active in the Chocksett Club, and the East Lake Waushacum Association. She loved to entertain at her home on the lake. She was a great cook and loved to feed a crowd.

Her family would like to thank her Oncology Team at UMass University Campus, the caregivers at Sterling Village Rehab and her Hospice team at Overlook Services. It takes a village.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hour from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, 17, Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Funeral services for Rosemarie will be held from the funeral home on Monday, May 18, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 5 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sterling Animal Shelter/Animal Shelter Inc., 17 Laurelwood Road, Sterling, MA 01564, or Save the Lake, c/o ELWA P.O. Box 1118, Sterling, MA 01564.
