HOLDEN – Maria Rosa (Figuerdo) Martins, 80, formerly of Worcester, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, in UMass Memorial Medical Center after a recent illness.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Carlos Martins; her beloved children, Elizabeth and her husband Robert Pendleton of Holden and Anthony and his wife Elizabeth Martins of Southborough; four grandchildren; Julianne and her husband William Winans of Dudley, Anthony, Jr. and his wife Deirdre Martins of Garner, North Carolina, and Audette and Patrick Martins of Southborough; three great-grandchildren; Kathryn and Gregory Winans and Alexis Martins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Odette.
She was born in Portugal and came to Worcester in 1949. She worked as a seamstress in Worcester, retiring several years ago. She moved to Holden in 2000. She was a beloved and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always took great pleasure in cooking for anyone who came to visit. She was loved by all her knew her and will be greatly missed.
Maria’s family wishes to thank Dr. Margo Gill as well as the wonderful nurses and PCAs on West 1 at Memorial Hospital for the kindness and compassion they showed to Maria during her illness. Their compassion will never be forgotten and was greatly appreciated.
Relatives and friends are invited to a calling hour from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 28th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Maria’s memory to The Susan G.
