Ronald Paul Volungis

PAXTON – Ronald Paul Volungis, 72, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Worcester, the son of Daniel A. Volungis and Helen G. (Roman) Peterson and had lived in Oakham for many years before recently moving to Paxton.He leaves his loving wife of 44 years, Susan E. (Aldrich) Volungis; his daughter, Lisa Smith and her husband, Kyle of Reno, NV; his son, Neil Volungis of Somerville; his brother, Daniel Volungis and his wife, Judy of Cohasset; his sister, Patricia Pastner and her husband, Gerard of Mashpee; his grandson, Carter Smith; several nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend, Dan Boucher and his family of California.Ron graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester State College, and earned his M. Ed. Degree from Westfield State College. He served his country and enlisted in the U.S Army Reserves before being honorably discharged in 1972. Ron was an Assistant Program Director for Nonotuck Resource Associates, Inc., in Auburn for eight years before retiring in 2016. Ron was a licensed Construction Supervisor, and worked in construction and lumber sales for companies including The Gerrity Company, Readville, The Tyree Organization in Westboro, and GV Moore Lumber Co, Inc, in Ayer.Ron was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing at the Quabbin Reservoir and various local ponds, gardening, and wine making in his leisure. He will be sadly missed by his close and loving family and friends.A memorial service in Ron’s memory will be held on Monday, July 9th at 11 a.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester County Food Bank, 474 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
