WORCESTER – Dr. Ronald J. Dorris, 92, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, surrounded by the loving presence of his family.
Ron was born in New York City, the son of George and Beatrice (Kirshner) Dorris. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University with Magna Cum Laude distinction and then graduated from Weil Cornell Medical School and receive board certification internal medicine and pulmonology. He received a fellowship in pulmonary disease at University of Pennsylvania. Ron moved to Worcester 1963, where he affiliated with St. Vincent Hospital, UMass Memorial Medical Center and Harrington Hospital and began a truly remarkable career in pulmonary medicine, allergy, and internal medicine spanning over 55 years. He was a President of the American Lung Association in Massachusetts and received their lifetime achievement award. For most of his career, he was a solo practitioner operating with a loyal staff of five into his mid-eighties. He was distinguished by his determination to diagnose the primary source of his patients’ problems through keen, compassionate listening and scientific reasoning.
Ron will be lovingly missed and remembered by his adored wife Carole (Reevman) Dorris with whom he shared a wonderful marriage of over 65 years; Ron’s son, Gary Dorris and Gary’s wife, Diana Roth of Boulder, Colorado; Ron’s daughters, Patricia Dorris of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Beth Dorris of Los Angeles, and Heidi Dorris and her husband, Dan Howard of North Kingston, Rhode Island; and his cherished grandchildren, Rachel, Jake, Alexander, Hannah and Mia. Ron was an avid skier and punster.
Funeral Services for Ron will take place on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at 9:30 AM at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Out of an abundance of caution, everyone in attendance at the Temple service must wear a mask and have proof of vaccination. Interment will follow at B’nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. John’s Road, Worcester. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
Following the interment service, the family invites everyone to a Memorial Observance Reception from 1:00 to 3:00 PM in the Great Room of The Willows, 101 Barry Road, Worcester.
