Ronald V. Armstrong

July 1, 1934 — March 22, 2018

HOLDEN – Ronald “Zeke” V. Armstrong, 83, passed away peacefully at his son’s home in Connecticut on Thursday, March 22, 2018. Born in Holden, Zeke was the son of John S. and Mary T. (Nolan) Armstrong and lived in Jefferson his entire life. He was a graduate of Holden High School, class of 1953.

His beloved wife of 58 years, Beverly Ann (Blake) Armstrong died in 2016. He will be forever remembered and missed by his two sons, David A. Armstrong and his wife, Patricia of Shrewsbury and Ronald M. Armstrong and his wife, Lori, Ron Sr.’s special caregiver for three years, of Dayville, CT; and nephews and nieces. Besides his wife, Ron is predeceased by three sisters, Jeannette Winslow, Catherine Parker, Joan Ethier, and three brothers, Robert, John and Roger Armstrong. The family would also like to express their gratitude to the Day Kimball Healthcare Hospice program and staff who provided their invaluable and caring assistance.

Zeke honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He enjoyed a 30 year career as a wire drawer for several local companies including Worcester Wire Works where he worked for 24 years.  After his retirement, Zeke became the superintendent of St. Mary’s Cemetery in Holden, a position he wholeheartedly enjoyed until 2002. He later worked part time at the Jefferson Post Office.  He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson and its Men’s Club.

A perfect day for Zeke was working in his yard, conversing with neighbors on politics and finishing the day in his workshop with a fire in the woodstove, with the boys and his favorite dogs, Rufus and Taz. He also enjoyed rides with his wife Beverly to Vermont for pancakes and to Maine and Wells Beach.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Monday, March 26, at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will be held privately at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Zeke’s name to St. Mary’s Church, P O. Box 2200 , Jefferson, MA 01522.
