HOLDEN – Hilding Roger Erickson, 92, of Chapin Road, died peacefully in his home on November 3, 2009 after an illness.
He is survived by his wife, Anna R. (Henrickson) Erickson; a son, Charles Erickson of Worcester; a sister-in-law, Mary Eaton; and many nieces and nephews. His daughter, Nancy Erickson, and two sisters, Anna and Elsie Storey, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester the son of I. Eric and Anna (Wahlstrom) Erickson and lived in Holden for over 50 years.
In June of 1947, he married his beloved wife Anna Henrickson. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2007.
Mr. Erickson graduated from Holden High School, where he played on the High School football and baseball teams. He was an army veteran of World War II, serving with the 282nd Coast Artillery Battalion. He later attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute and graduated from Boston University. He was the assistant superintendent for Chase Brass and Copper of Waterbury, CT and was the personnel director for both the U.S. Envelope Co. in Worcester and the Worcester County Institution of Savings, retiring 1983.
He was a member of the Guiding Lights Masonic Lodge in Auburn. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Worcester. He was a member of the Mass Audubon Society, the Finnish Heritage Society Sovittaja in Rutland and the First Congregational Church of Holden.
Mr. Erickson enjoyed his long retirement. He loved the outdoors, gardening, his vintage tractor and his father's collection of records from the 1920s. He enjoyed spending time with his family and he remained engaged in current events.
Funeral arrangements are private and under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Holden, 1180 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520.
