HOLDEN – Roger “Skip” D. McCauley, 76, of Holden, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family Sunday, July 8, 2018, after a brief illness. Born and raised mainly in Holden, Roger was the son of William and Blanche (Ellis) McCauley.
After graduating from Wachusett Regional High School in 1960, he would soon begin his career within the Wachusett Regional Union 64 school district, eventually becoming Supervisor of Buildings. A gifted craftsman and woodworker, he put his skills to good use in his own company, “Skip McCauley Home Improvement”.   Alongside his beloved wife, Darlene, he had also been the “S” in “D & S Country Gifts”. Together, they would have a successful artisan business, selling furniture and decorative items from their store in Clinton and at craft fairs throughout New England.
Skip was a long-time member and Past Master of Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland, as well as Past District Deputy Grand Marshal of the Brookfield 21st Masonic District from 1982-1983.  As a 32nd Degree Mason, he held memberships in the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Worcester, including the Worcester Lodge of Perfection, Goddard Council of Princes of Jerusalem, and the Lawrence Chapter of Rose Croix.
He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with each of them.  An avid outdoorsman, he spent many hours in his younger years hunting and fishing with his father, uncles, and son. He often spoke of the cars he’d owned over the years, never missing a chance to mention that souped up ’57 “checkerboard” Chevy he regretted parting with too soon!
Besides his parents, Skip is predeceased by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 52 years, Darlene (Smith) McCauley, who passed away in 2015, and his brother, LeRoy “Cap” McCauley.  He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his four children, Kim D. Longe of Brookfield, Tammy J. McCauley-Masse and her husband, David of Kittery, ME, Candace L. Graham and her husband, Richard of Holden and William R. McCauley and his wife, Isabel of Holden. He will be missed by his nine grandchildren, Brendan and Ryan Longe, Charlotte Masse, Robert “Eli”, Daniel and Elly Graham, and Nathan, Lucas and Jack McCauley. He also leaves behind his sister, JoAnn Blodgett and her husband, Ronald of Holden; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice Services for their support and guidance over the past several weeks.Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Skip’s family from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday, July 15th at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden with a Masonic memorial service at 6:30 pm.  A funeral service honoring Skip's life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 16th at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Grove Cemetery in Holden.  Memorial contributions in Skip’s name may be made to The Overlook, 88 Masonic Home Rd., Charlton, MA 01507, or a charity of your choice.  To share a memory or leave an online condolence, please visit "Guest Book" on this page.
