Holden/East Weymouth - Rodney H. Swenson, 85, peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Queen Ann Nursing Home in Hingham. Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Herman R. and Olivia A. (Caron) Swenson, and a proud graduate of Lawrence High School. Rodney earned his Associate's degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology and later achieved a Bachelor of Science from Northeastern University. His professional journey led him to a successful career in mechanical engineering and industrial management at several Worcester area companies including Curtis & Marble, Bay State Abrasives, and Parker Affiliated Cos. In his retirement, Rodney embraced a new role as a school bus driver transporting special need students for several area towns.
A skilled woodworker and finish carpenter, Rodney took pride in his meticulous craftsmanship. He found joy traveling in the U.S. and abroad, particularly spending winters in LaBelle, Florida. An avid horseshoe player, he participated in numerous tournaments. Rodney also had a deep passion for breeding Bulldogs and engaging in dog shows. A dedicated member of the Bull Dog Club of New England, he transitioned into judging dog shows after retiring from competition. In his youth, Rodney enjoyed playing in Drum and Bugle Corps.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Swenson, in 2007, he is survived by his wife of 15 years, Maureen J. Swenson of East Weymouth. Rodney was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Swenson, in 1995. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Thomas Swenson and his wife, Jackie Skehan of Fitchburg, and David Swenson and his wife, Becky Nurmi-Swenson of Rutland. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Kristin Milton and her husband, Christopher of Boylston, and Craig Swenson and his wife, Kristie of High Rolls, New Mexico. Cherished great-grandchildren include Ella and Ryan Milton, and Lily and Wyatt Swenson.
